Digital Editing of Medieval Manuscripts

“The Wonders of the East” is a text that belongs to a medieval genre of Mirabilia, and is presently found in three manuscripts from the eleventh and the twelfth centuries: one written Old English, another in Latin, and the third combines both. All manuscripts feature a number of illustrations as well as numerous allusions to creatures mythical and real, and to historical figures as well as to some fantasy folks. The text itself gives an account of distant countries and the entities that live there, of their behavior and looks.

Taking into consideration the rich possibilities that the text gives, the aim of the edition is to create an interactive version of this text and to supply it with additional historical, geographical and pictorial data. The main goal is to make these wonders accessible to a wider public through this edition and to make their discovery an interesting and useful process.
