Charles University, Prague
Charles University, Prague, was founded in 1348, making it one of the oldest universities in the world. Yet it is also renowned as a modern, dynamic, cosmopolitan and prestigious institution of higher education. It is the largest and most renowned Czech university, and is also the best-rated Czech university according to international rankings. There are currently 17 faculties at the University and over 53,000 students. The University is also the best-performing research institution in the Czech Republic. Queen Mary University of London
QMUL, is one of the UK’s leading research-focused higher education institutions. Its schools range across the humanities, social sciences, law, medicine and dentistry, and science and engineering. It is based in a creative and culturally diverse area of east London, and is one of 24 leading UK universities represented by the Russell Group. The School of History is one of the largest, friendliest and most distinguished history departments in the country. Its staff expertise ranges from the medieval to the contemporary, including African, American, Asian, British and European history. DEMM coordinator in London is Eyal Poleg.
CIHAM
CIHAM has been, since 1994, the UMR 5648 an “unité mixte de recherche”, under the auspices of the CNRS, the Université Lumière Lyon 2 and the EHESS, to which have been added since the ENS de Lyon, the Université d’Avignon et des pays du Vaucluse and the Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3. Initially named after the acronym of Centre Interuniversitaire d’Histoire et d’Archéologie Médiévale, this research centre has been named, since 1 January 2011 : Histoire, Archéologie, Littératures des mondes chrétiens et musulmans médiévaux. The 2016-2020 scientific plan of the CIHAM is structured around five major topics – territories, margins and borders; power and authority; constructing and transmitting knowledges; writings, books and translations; people, goods and markets – with the addition of a transversal programme on Digital Humanities. Drawing from the long field experience of the research centre in South-Eastern France and the Mediterranean world especially Italy, Iberian Peninsula and Maghreb), our research programmes cover various geo-cultural areas, that offer opportunities for comparatism. By bringing together historians, archaeologists and literature scholars, the CIHAM is an area of scientific exchange fostering interdisciplinarity, and an open way of working with networks, in fruitful European and international collaborations. The University of Siena
The University of Siena, best classified in the Italian ranking of the university research 2013, is one of the most ancient university of Europe (founded 1240). Its Department of Filologia e critica delle Letterature antiche e moderne manages three main degree courses, “Literary and Philosophical Studies” (Bachelor), “Modern Literatures” and “Classics” (Master Programs), one professional Master (“Digital Edition”), one Ph.D school (“Filologia e critica”, with two curricula on medieval and modern philology and some European joint degrees). The tenured teachers are about 50. Publications and journals are among the most prestigious in the relevant areas. The Dept. includes the Center for Comparative Studies “I Deug-Su” which is busy in four main areas, each with its own publications and initiatives: Latin documents of Korean history, Comparative literatures, Medieval latin literature and Digital philology. The library of Klosterneuburg Monastery
T
he library of Klosterneuburg Monastery near Vienna was founded in 1114 and shelters about 300.000 volumes. With its 1250 medieval manuscripts, 880 incunabula and 750 early printed books it is one of the largest collections of rare books in Austria. In cooperation with the Austrian Academy of Sciences the manuscripts get catalogued in a long term project since the 1970ies. During these activities some main digital projects on medieval manuscripts in Austria were developed on the primarily basis of the Klosterneuburg sources, e.g. the database to medieval watermarks (WZMA), a database to Hebrew fragments (www.hebraica.at) or the web portal manuscripta.at. The infrastructure for digitization consist of a book-traveller and a high-resolution scanner. DEMM coordinator in Klosterneuburg is Martin Haltrich.
